Acne Scarring can have serious effects on a persons self-image and emotional state. Fortunately there have been significant advances in the treatment of acne-related scarring in recent years. It is important to note that nothing will completely heal the majority of scars.

Laser Therapy – Using lasers to treat scars is a new technology, but is one of the most promising options for severe scarring. The lasers remove the scarred skin, and encourage growth of new skin in its place. After treatment, the skin will be pink and swollen for a week or so. During this time, bandages need to be kept over the skin to prevent infection. It takes months for the skin to return to normal, but most people will see less noticeable scars and smoother skin. Laser scar treatment can be quite expensive, however.

Surgical Therapy (Dermabrasion) – This form of scar treatment uses a motorized burr, which usually contains diamond particles. Diamonds are very strong abrasives when in a powder-form. A scab will form once the procedure is completed. Once the wound is healed, a smooth pink layer of new skin will appear. Multiple treatments are often necessary, and each one can cost $1500.

Creams and Gels – There are many topical treatments that claim to reduce the appearance of scars. Some contain Vitamin E and other nutrients. Mederma is a popular brand name. Many people report that it can improve scars in as little as 8 weeks for new scars, or 6 months for older scars. Results with topical ointments like this will vary from person to person.

Collagen Injection – This is a temporary fix, where the patients own body fat or collagen is injected into the scar site. This works well for some people with deep-pitted scars. The material injected serves to raise the skin, and reduce the pitted appearance, and wrinkling from the scar. br
Im pretty sure that when most people think about acne, they come to the conclusion that this health problem affects people during adolescence. And although many people who have had acne as teens are no longer afflicted by it; however, the number of people who do battle acne during their adulthood may surprise you. In addition, while teens do make up a large percentage of the acne-suffering population, it is more prevalent in adults than one might think.

It is also becoming clear that the physical, psychological, and social effects of this condition are still frequent occurances in adults, and can cause many problems. Also, according to recent studies, acne is an increasing problem among adults, but the reasons for this are not always clear.

Perhaps the most negative effects that acne causes are not only physical but psychological effects as well. Whether acne strikes during adolescence and continues on into adulthood, or simply strikes after the age of 30, the physical and psychological effects can be long-lasting and cause problems. Dermatologists say that adult acne is more likely to leave permanent scars because as the skin ages and loses collagen, its more difficult for it to bounce back and the scars are, therefore, often unable to heal as they would in younger skin. Physical scars arent the only ones left by adult acne; psychological scars could be even worse.

There are many misconceptions that are associated with psychological scarring. Therefore, it can be much harder to trace, and sometimes more difficult to deal with than physical scarring. For example, it has been believed that the psychological effects of adult acne are easier to deal with because adults are able to accept the condition better than teens. In reality, the ramifications of these scars can be severe because acne has been perceived to be a condition specific to teens. And although many of us know this isnt the case, yet many people are often afraid to admit they have adult acne and seek treatment.

Things are changing though. As perceptions are shifting, and more people are recognizing acne as a problem not only among teens but also among adults, more people are going to dermatologists for treatment. And these are really good news.

Many adults are now seeking relief from prescribed medications as well as from over-the-counter products to treat the condition. Sales of these products have increased, along with the awareness of adult acne.

Because adult acne is reported to be on the rise, doctors are now starting to consider the special causes and unique effects of this condition on older patients. As public awareness continues to increase, people may be more likely to seek treatment.

One of the reasons for this awakening is in part thanks to the wealth of information that is now available about adult acne. People who is affected with this health condition can have access to this information and learn more about this desease and that way have a much better understanding of it and have the knowledge on how to combat its problems. More care is also being given to the psychological effects of adult acne. Because adults, like teens, are often affected by what those around them think and how they are perceived, many often stay away from attending social events. Understanding what is causing adult acne is the key to its treatment and possible cure. If there are treatments for the physical problems caused by acne, there is no reason why the social and psychological ones cannot be treated as well!/pbr

Teenage acne is one thing, but amazingly enough, one of the most severe forms of acne is that which occurs at an adult age. Needless to say, adult acne treatment is quite tricky. Women in their thirties of forties that have never had any trouble with acne before may end up with red pimples overnight.

Thanks to advertising, pretty much any known acne remedy on the market fools buyers into believing it’s the miracle cure of their life. It’s essential not to be tricked by marketing schemes and to pick an acne treatment that comes only from an extremely trustworthy source. Otherwise, disappointment is imminent – there are millions of cases of ineffective treatments.

Self-esteem issues related to adult acne are most definitely not to be ignored. Just like being overweight, it’s one of the problems that have to be dealt with one way or another. Allowing the entire situation to remain as such, without doing anything to ameliorate and finally cure it, has drastic consequences on the long term.

This is the point where adult acne is different from the one teenagers have to deal with. Not only is it more serious, but people see teenagers with this problem differently. It’s almost a natural situation of being in your teens – nothing unusual. However, as an adult, it is viewed as generally unacceptable. Implicitly, an efficient acne treatment is necessary.

Needless to say, people generally assume the worse. The untidy aspect of being overweight or an acne sufferer is usually blamed on general negligence. Indeed, it is outrageously unfair that someone with acne, who has reached a certain age, doesn’t wash their face. In most cases, it is a simple a matter of hormones, or one of not having found the proper acne remedy.

Another aspect of adult acne is its tendency of leaving scars, which can be just as bad esthetically speaking, but utterly permanent. In this case, there are only two courses of action – accepting the situation and sitting back, praying for a miracle, or deciding to take action and fight the cause that is at the root of this problem by getting hold of the individual acne remedy that works best.

The general aspect of acne includes black heads, white heads and red pimples that may appear anywhere on the body, but mostly on the face. Sometimes, it also includes permanent scarring. Overactive oil glands are to blame – they are at the base of microscopic hair follicles and they cause inflammation and blockage.

There is no general miraculous answer to acne because it is essentially different from individual to individual. It may vary from mild to severe, and what may work for one person may not work or, worse, have the opposite effect for another. That’s why it is extremely important for you to consult with your dermatologist before choosing an acne remedy or another. Finally, don’t forget that acne must not be treated lightly. The fact that it is an extremely widespread issue does not make it any less difficult to get rid of.

Scars from acne can have a serious effect on a person’s self-esteem and emotional state. Fortunately there have been advances in the treatment of acne-related scarring in recent years. However, it is important to note that nothing will completely heal most scars.
Laser Therapy -
Using lasers to treat scars is a relatively new technology, but is one of the most promising options for severe cases. Laser scar treatment can be expensive, but may be appropriate for severe cases.
Surgical Therapy (Dermabrasion) -
This form of scar treatment uses a motorized burr, which usually contains diamond particles. Diamonds are extremely strong abrasives when in a powder-form. A scab will form once the procedure is completed. Once it is healed, a smoother pink layer of new skin is underneath. Multiple treatments are often necessary, and each one can cost $1500.
Creams and Gels -
There are many topical treatments that claim to reduce the appearance of scars. Many contain Vitamin E and other nutrients. Mederma is a popular brand name. Many people report that it can improve scars in as little as 8 weeks for new scars, or 6 months for older scars. Results with topical ointments like this will vary from person to person.
Collagen Injection -
This is a temporary fix, where the patient’s own body fat or collagen is injected into the scar site. This works well for some people with deep-pitted scars. The material injected serves to raise the skin, and reduce the pitted appearance, and wrinkling from the scar. However, this procedure needs to be repeated every 6 months and can be expensive.

As technology has continued it’s ever increasing march it has had a corresponding effect on all aspects of society its’ effect on the treatment of acne scars is no exception.

Acne can be a terrible emotional and psychology scourge to those suffering from it but when acne finally goes away, many also have to live with the by-product of severe acne and that is the left over scarring. For some, the scarring is worse than the acne because the acne could be treated and would eventually go away but many scars last forever.

Scarring may never go away because acne scars are not on the surface of the skin but their roots are deep down in the skin. For those who decide to invest in skin treatment, acne laser treatment is becoming a more popular and viable solution. On the other hand, it can be a bit expensive but for those suffering from scars if it can help its money well spent.

One of the features that makes treating acne scars using a specialized laser is that results can be seen relatively quickly compared to lotions or ointments that can improve the skin but results are slow. In fact, because the results take such a long time and in many instances are not as effective treating acne scars via laser for some can actually be a less expensive alternative.

Only trained medical health care professionals should administer acne laser treatment so be sure to make sure any clinic you decide to use is fully qualified. The first step in the process of treating acne and acne scarring with lasers is to kill the bacteria that are causing the pimple outbreaks. The next step is to shrink the sebaceous glands, which produce the oil. This helps to ensure that future outbreaks are reduced or even completed stopped in some instances.

In addition to greatly reducing or even preventing acne, acne laser surgery can greatly reduce the appearance of scars. If scarring is bad it will take more than one session to reduce their appearance and it may not be possible to completely eliminate any signs of scarring but for those with light scarring one session can completely remove the scars for some.

Another nice aspect of treating acne with lasers is that there are no known side effects and while being treated there is little or no pain during the sessions which normally take less than an hour to complete.
