In recent years, the popularity of saunas has significantly increased due to its numerous health benefits and its ability to help one relax and reduce stress. Infrared Sauna is one type of sauna that is becoming well known for its positive health impact on the mind and body.

An infrared sauna is different than a conventional sauna as it does not use steam. Instead, it utilizes special heaters that produce and disperse infrared rays. Infrared light is a wavelength of light naturally emitted by the sun. Infrared saunas produce the same infrared energy we get from the sun, but it is not harmful ultraviolet light. Infrared is thermal radiation, meaning that it conducts heat. The electromagnetic energy enters the body and causes it to heat up which results in sweating.

Ceramic heaters are used in modern infrared saunas. The temperature created ranges from 110 to 130 degrees F. It is cooler than a traditional sauna which allows one to sit in the sauna longer thereby perspiring more. The infrared radiation only heats the body, and not the air. The heating effects are produced below the skin and the deep penetration of the infrared rays into the skin allows more contaminates to be removed than if one were to use a conventional steam sauna.

Infrared rays have shown to be beneficial to the body. The harmless rays enter skin and the heat produced will cause fat cells to loosen up resulting in toxins, metals, and other harmful elements being released. As one perspires, toxins, bacteria, and metals, are driven out from the body which makes infrared saunas an effective method of body detoxification. Once one eliminates the harmful substances from their body, they will have more energy, be more alert, and have an overall feeling of good health. They will even sleep much better.

Infrared saunas are also effective at clearing up acne. As well, it helps to reduce cellulite, improves skin elasticity and tone, and even helps to heal such conditions as burns, eczema, scars, and psoriasis. In fact, for those interested in shedding some extra pounds, infrared saunas can burn 400-600 calories in one 30 minute sitting.

Infrared saunas are also an effective therapeutic technique for relieving muscle pain and spasms, as well as speeding up the healing process for injured muscles and tissue. The heat that is produced warms up the body internally which boosts blood circulation and brings oxygen and nutrients to the injured area and removes fluid build up from the area. As well, the deep penetration of the infrared rays is an effective method of treating bone and joint conditions such as osteoarthritis. The healing properties and its stress alleviating effects makes this type of sauna a good choice for those wanting to improve their overall health and well being.

The health benefits for both the mind and body have made saunas a popular choice for the home as well as in wellness spas. Regular use of an infrared sauna will detoxify the body of harmful chemicals, metals, bacteria, and other toxins from the environment, and one will soon achieve healthy weight loss, a strengthened immune system, and most importantly, good health.

Acne is an age-old problem that generally affects teenagers but also a large number of adults. Whether were in our teens or past puberty, acne poses the same problems: it eats up our confidence, makes us feel unattractive and ugly, and at its worse, makes us ashamed to face the world and constantly self-conscious about what other people are thinking about us.

What really irks us is that we may be doing all the right things in terms of skin care and living a healthy lifestyle and yet acne haunts us anyway. However, some studies show that there is one thing that we may have overlooked in terms of acne maintenance — proper nutrition.

Acne comes about when androgens increase and overproduce keratin and sebum, resulting in clogged pores and skin infections. A deficiency in Vitamin A also causes too much keratin while a diet rich in fried foods and saturated fat can lead to blocked pores. Nutritionists recommend vitamin A, zinc and vitamin C to fight infection, vitamin E to heal the wounds and prevent scarring. and vitamin B3 (niacin) to flush unwanted toxins from the skin.

In order to keep skin soft, nutritionists recommend the so-called Essential Fatty Acids, which also dissolves fatty deposits that block pores and repairs damaged skin. You may want to try blue-green algae, which provides chlorophyll that aids in cleansing the blood and delivers oxygen, which is critical because some bacteria cannot survive in the presence of oxygen. Other important nutrients include vitamin B Complex, chromium, acidophilus and selenium.

Here are other nutrition tips to fight acne:

A diet that is high in fiber can keep the colon clean and can reduce toxicity.

Vegetables and fruits are essential to any healthy diet.

Zinc-rich foods like soybeans, pumpkin seeds and certain nuts are beneficial to the skin.

Drinking lots of water (1.5 liters daily, at least) leads to healthy skin. Drinking lots of alcohol, coffee, soft drinks and sugar-rich drinks leads to unhealthy skin.

Too much iodine (fish and table salt) can make acne worse. The same can be said for eating too many dairy products such as eggs, cheese, milk and the like.br
br
Acne has several different types, but the most common are known as Acne Vulgaris. Acne Vulgaris is the type of acne that teens and adults most commonly suffer from. In fact, 85% of teens suffer from Acne Vulgaris. Most of the time, acne is resolved as a person grows older and his or her face will clear up when he or she reaches the early 20s. For some people, however, the problem can continue well into adulthood, sometimes even reaching up to a persons 30s or even 40s.

Acne Vulgaris most commonly affects a persons face and neck, but there are also cases wherein it afflicts a persons chest, back and shoulders. The following are the common manifestations or types of the common acne.

Acne type #1: Whiteheads

When a pore becomes completely blocked, the sebum or the oil gets trapped inside the pore along with the bacteria and the dead skin cells. This results in a whitehead. Whiteheads are also called closed comedones.

The opening of a whitehead is very microscopic, which is mainly why the sebum and the dead cells arent oxidized and turned black. It is also why a whitehead, as its name implies, has a white appearance on the surface.

Whiteheads have a shorter lifespan compared to the other forms of acne and can easily be popped.

Acne type#2: Blackheads

Blackheads, on the other hand, are called open comedones. Unlike whiteheads, blackheads have larger openings, so some of the sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria slowly seep out into the surface of the skin.

Most people believe that blackheads are dark because of dirt. This is not really the case. Blackheads are dark because the skins pigment melanin, which is included in the chemicals that seep to the surface, reacts with oxygen and turns black.

Blackheads have a relatively stable structure. They take a much longer time than whiteheads to clear.

Acne type #3: Papules

Papules are bumps on the skin which are often red and inflamed. Unlike whiteheads and blackheads, papules have no head. Popping them would only exacerbate scarring and would not yield any good results.

No pus will come out so its best to just leave this type of acne alone. Trying to pop this type of acne is also rather painful. Leave a papule alone and it will eventually recede and disappear.

Acne type#4: Pustules

Pustules are what we commonly call pimples. Like a whitehead, the sebum, dead skin cells and the bacteria are trapped inside. The difference between the two is that pustules are usually more severe and more painful. The area surrounding pustules is also red and inflamed.

Pustules are also much larger than papules. It is generally not advisable to pop a pimple or pustule for it may become a permanent scar or lesion. It is best to just apply a topical antibiotic or to use anti-acne products and wait for the pustule to recede.

Sometimes, though, pustules can become very inflamed. More and more pus accumulates inside the pore so the pustule swells up until even the slightest movement can pop it. When this happens, just clean your face thoroughly with water and soap and make sure that the pus does not spread.

br
One of the most important struggles of a persons teenage years can be their struggle with acne. Sufferers battle the little red monsters along with the humiliation and social devastation that they face among their peers. And, it is a losing battle with no true cure available. Of course, there are some topical ointments that can help treat existing pimples but even these are often powerless against a severe case of acne.

So far, people suffering from acne have four basic treatment options available to them. Externally, topical ointments can be applied to the surface of acne. These ointments contain an anti-bacterial agent that kills the bacteria responsible for creating havoc in the clogged pores of the skin.

The second option is to take oral medication, which is more beneficial to treat body acne and extremely severe cases of acne affecting the face. These oral medications contain antibiotics and are quite effective in reducing some of the more severe cases of acne.

Hormone therapy is another option available to people afflicted with acne but it is not very common. While there are several treatment options available with hormone therapy, a common practice is to inject cortisone directly into lesions. Other options include using inhibitors that prevent hormones like androgen from causing further outbreaks.

In recent years, laser therapy has become an effective treatment option for acne. Highly concentrated beams of light are aimed directly at the affected regions during laser treatment. The acne-causing bacteria can be literally vaporized with the intense heat from the laser. The true effectiveness of laser therapy can only be assessed after the patient has undergone several sessions with the laser.

The other advantage of laser therapy is that it can help reduce the scarring caused by acute cases of acne. Laser burns away the dead skin and makes the scars less noticeable. For maximum effectiveness especially in severe cases, the treatments and scar therapy may have to be staged over several months.

Unfortunately, laser treatment for acne costs quite a packed and most insurance plans do not cover this treatment. Laser treatment is likely to remain an expensive treatment option even for the coming years because the specialized equipment and facilities it requires are very costly. All acne treatment options including hormone therapy or oral medication carry some minimal risks. The risks involved in laser therapy are no greater.

Though acne affects the skin, it invariably leaves a scar on the psyche of the person suffering from it. Many lucky ones escape the curse entirely while others have to live with this most brutal part of growing up. If your acne is mild, you may be able to treat it with topical ointments, but if you are suffering from an acute case of acne, you must consult with your doctor or dermatologist and go in for laser treatment if it is an option recommended for you./pbr
Acne is a troublesome skin problem which can threaten the self esteem of any person at any time in life. More troublesome are the scars caused by acne. Acne may leave you for good but its scars will remain with you forever. No wonder people feel the way they do when they have acne. It is important for everyone to know the root cause of acne. Acne is mainly believed to be caused by hormonal changes in the body and bacteria on the skin. These are the two most known reasons of acne whereas dirt and poor hygiene is sometimes also held responsible for acne. In this topic we will discuss about poor hygiene and its relation with acne and try to find that whether poor hygiene is a cause of acne or not. It is a general statement that dirt or poor hygiene has no relation with causing acne. This statement is true because poor hygiene and acne has been studied by many scientists and found no alarming situation which led to acne due to poor hygiene. Hygiene is important in all cases whether acne or not. Washing your face at least 2 times a day helps to cleanse your face. It also keeps the dirt off your face and keeps your face fresh and lively. Do not over wash your face as it can cause irritation on the skin. Always wash your face with a mild soap and rinse the soap properly to avoid dryness on skin. Always use a mild lotion after washing your skin. It is a common misunderstanding that you should not use moisturizers on acne skin. Whereas modern studies have shown that moisturizing your skin after washing it is important to prevent acne. Hygiene may not be the cause of acne but it certainly helps to get rid of acne and to minimize the hazards of acne. Always take good care of your skin and make sure that you do not neglect the needs of your skin.br
There are several types of acne and all of them are not a sight to behold for some. Acne can be a real nuisance, especially if covers your face. Aside from what you know as pimples it would also be a good idea acquaint yourself with acne lesions so that you can take proper action once you they start to appear. Acne vulgaris is a certain type of pimple much like whiteheads, blackheads, papules, nodules, pustules and cysts.

Whiteheads are white bumps that start to appear on your face whenever oil, dead skin cells and bacteria are trapped in your pores. These are the ones that you would be tempted to pop. Popping a whitehead is sometimes unnecessary since they disappear quickly and have short life spans. They are also referred to as closed comedones.

If you see reddish and inflamed bumps, they are papules, another kind of acne vulagris. This acne has no head so you cannot just pop them out. Squeezing papules is not an option. Doing so can cause scarring and can lead to infection.

Acne that is similar to the characteristics of a whitehead is a pustule. You would notice a circular and reddish flesh that surrounds the head. The head would usually have a yellowish or whitish center. Pustules can be squeezed out, just be sure to have professionals do that for you.

A more severe case of acne vulgaris is the appearance of cysts and nodules. Nodules one acne types that is thought of as the most difficult to treat. It can take up to one to three months before it could completely disappear. These are large bumps that can lead to scarring. This kind of lesion should not be popped out at any cost because they can cause serious skin damage. If it gets infected it would take longer for it to heal.

The gruesome version of a nodule is a cyst. Aside from the reddish flesh that surrounds its head, it also contains pus. Cysts are large acne that have a diameter of around 5mm. These are the painful type of acne and can cause serious infection when squeezed out by a non-professional. At the first appearance of cysts or nodules, it would be best to consult your dermatologist so that swelling and scarring can be prevented.br

Millions of people suffer from acne at one point in their lives. Luckily most only have a few breakouts here and there that can be managed with a proper skin care routine. Unfortunately there are some folks who have to deal with severe breakouts, painful swelling, and itchy skin. For those with more severe cases of acne or pimples treating the aftermath of acne and the scars left behind is part of the ordeal of living with acne.

There is a wide array of treatment options for reducing the visible signs of acne after the breakout is gone. One of the easiest ways to treat acne scarring is by using the products you have at home to make a cost effective cream or ointment. Several different variations of home treatments for scarring can be found online. These treatments are not for everyone and may actually cause additional breakouts if you aren’t careful in how you use them. Be sure to test the product in an area that is not visible incase you suffer from some weird side-effect or reaction to the treatment.

Depending on the individual situation an at home remedy may not be strong enough to take away deep scarring left behind by acne. Chemical peels are one of the most commonly used products to reduce scars. Chemical peels will only work at reducing the signs of scarring if the damage to the skin is not very deep.

Deeper scars require more intensive treatments that may include dermabrasion, or laser treatments. Dermabrasion and laser treatments are much more expensive than other forms of treating scars and should only be used in severe cases of scarring. These methods go deep into the skin and are not suitable for all situations. Your dermatologist can provide you with more information on whether or not dermabrasion and laser treatments are right for you in the longterm.

When trying to reduce acne scarring it’s important to let your face heal in between treatments. More invasive procedures may require several visits to get the results you are looking for. In the end you may still have a small amount of scarring however in most patients their complexion evens out and scarring is reduced to a minimal amount as the treatments progress over time.

Of course, the easiest way to avoid having to deal with scars is to take care of your skin and treat acne before it becomes a problem. Avoid picking at breakouts as this only makes what might have started as a small problem a much bigger one. Kinda making a mountain out of a molehill type situation. Wash your hands frequently and always use products designed with your skin type in mind.
